“Jerome tells providers to develop innovative services”

This week in Community Care Jeff Jerome, who is charged with helping Councils implement the three-year Putting People First Programme has said, “Councils must encourage adult care providers to develop innovative services, rather than see providers as recipients of contracts, as part of a cultural shift to help implement personalisation.”
This culture shift is vital if the Government target on personalisation of 30% of users and carers being on personal budgets by April 2011 is to be achieved. The option of the Local Authority Trading Company for former in-house provider services remains an attractive vehicle to facilitate change and adapt former in-house services. Freedom to trade will allow such trading companies to develop new Personal Assistance Agencies and transform day service models towards community responsive services.
